Limitations

YAUI chooses constraints to be fast. Some of them differ from uGUI:

  • URP only. The Built-in Render Pipeline and HDRP are not supported.
  • No OpenGL ES. YAUI supports Vulkan, Metal and desktop graphics APIs.
  • The Transform of elements is ignored. Positions and sizes come from the layout, and 2D render transforms move elements after the layout. For 3D, use a world space panel.
  • Not compatible with uGUI. uGUI components (Image, Text, LayoutGroup...) do not work inside a YAUI panel, and there is no migration tool. uGUI canvases and YAUI panels can coexist in the same scene.
  • Up to 8 textures per draw call. More textures split the draw call. See Images.
  • ClipChildren applies only the nearest rounded clip. Use YauiMask for deeper nesting or other shapes. Mask edges are not anti-aliased.
  • Text uses internal APIs. The Advanced Text Generator is called through its internal API, checked at startup. If it does not match the Unity version, texts use the public TextGenerator on the main thread (slower).
  • Scroll views do not virtualize their content.
  • Particles and meshes cost a draw call each. Materials that are not YAUI shaders are not clipped or masked. See Particles and Meshes.
